1. Increase your credibility
When people look online for products or services, they need to know that the business offering them is a real, active, and trustworthy company. An incomplete listing feels like the owner didn’t even bother on putting that extra effort, so it raises doubts. Imagine you are looking for a service. Would you go to the store that has no signs outside, no logo, no windows so you can’t see what’s going on? Probably not! The same thing happens on Google.
It’s crucial that you claim your Business Profile on Google to confirm your business name, choose and claim a short name and URL, and add:
- Your logo
- A description of your business
- Your contact information
- Your opening hours (including seasonal variations)
- A link to your website
- Photos of the outside and inside of your business, as well as products
By doing this will people will feel more confident about your business. Just make sure to have up-to-date hours, in case you won’t open and people visit you without being aware that you are closed! A number they can call in case they want to talk directly with someone in the store. Pictures so they know what to expect and if possible, ask people for reviews. According to Google, businesses with a complete profile on Google are perceived twice as reputable by costumers and make your store more attractive for locals and out-of-town visitors.
2. Appear in local search results
According to Google, when people are trying to find local information, they use keywords like “in Vancouver” or “near me”. When you fill out your listing are way more likely to show up on those local searches and have more chance to engage with potential customers. For example, a plumber in Sydney with a complete Google My Business profile could show up when people nearby search for “plumbers near me”.
This is really beneficial for businesses that struggle with their online presence. If people click on the listing, it can lead to a sale. According to Google, complete listings are 29% more likely to attract purchases. Increase those chances by having a complete profile and updating it often with photos and posts. An extra benefit is that you will also show up on Google Maps for people in your area looking for your service using their phone.
3. Understand and engage with your customers
Google My Business allows customers to leave ratings, reviews, and even post images on your listing. It’s very easy to leave a review! Which is great because you can encourage customers to share a review about their experience. This will not only give you a better understanding of your clients, but reviews will also help prospects to take the decision to do business with you.
Something really nice about GMB reviews is that it gives you the opportunity to reply to EVERY review, making it way more personalized and help you engage with your customers. So even for those who weren’t happy, you can always apologize, explain yourself, and make it up for their next visit. This will be visible for everyone who visits your listing, so the fact that you go that extra mile with your customers will make you look like someone that really cares about their clients.
Google My Business makes it easy to get reviews. You can get a custom short URL for your listing that you can share on social media so you can ask your clients to leave a review about their experience.
4. Talk people into buying
Google My Business is not just about having your listing online. In a world where a lot of businesses are trying to attract more visitors, you need to find ways to stand out. Luckily Google My Business allows listings to stay fresh by posting constant updates, making it more appealing for potential buyers. This is what you can do:
Business owners can share posts on their GMB profile and they can be news regarding their services or products. There are different types of posts and you can add videos, pictures, and descriptions to all of them. “What’s New” allow s you to share news regarding your business. For example a restaurant promoting a new item on their menu. “Event” will let you add an event on your listing that can include a call to action, for example, a Nightclub that’s holding a show can add a link to buy tickets. Another option is sharing an “Offer” on your listing, so for example, people that find your business through Google can redeem a 20% coupon.
According to Google, listings that constantly post pictures receive 42% more requests for directions than those that don’t. Don’t worry if these pictures aren’t taken by professionals. As a matter of fact, people much rather see real pictures because this makes the place look authentic. Posting pictures will also give you a chance to show the real side of your business.
People can ask questions directly to your Google My Business profile. Depending on how active you are, this option will be active on your listing. So make sure to go back regularly and respond as quickly as possible. Otherwise Google will take this option away from you. For example, a restaurant that only does delivery on a certain area or at certain times. Even if you specified it elsewhere on your listing, people could ask you directly and replying to them also helps others that were looking for that information.
You can allow your customers to message you or even make a reservation through your Google My Business profile. This is really helpful especially for people that want to achieve something with fewer steps involved. Encourage your visitors to take action in the moment and make their life easier! Your options are Learn More, Reserve, Sign Up, Buy, and Get Offer.
5. Rank higher on Google Search
We need to have a nice and healthy relationship with Google so it can show us higher on their results. Unless you do a paid campaign, of course. It’s not a secret that if Google likes your business, it will show you higher on their Search and Maps results. It’s not too difficult to achieve this, but you need to be very consistent by posting often, keeping your listing up to date, sharing pictures, and very importantly, having accurate information. Google wants to be able to share information about you to your customers and it gets this information from your Google My Business profile. Feed Google and it will payback!
We highly recommend including Google My Business in your Social Media plan. Don’t expect shares, likes or comments like on the other platforms. That being said, we have seen results on our client’s business ranking higher on Google Search when they decided to take action on their Google My Business profile.
